About a month and a half ago a dog from down the street began getting loose and coming by to play with my dogs, and join us on walks and and playing in the woods. This went on for about five weeks. Such a friendly dog, I hated sending him home every night. Knowing he was an outdoor dog and would be lonely made it difficult. However this was not my dog, and he wasn’t abused physically, so that’s life.
About a week ago he stopped coming, and since the animal control had been in the area, I assumed his owner had repaired the fence, and he had just been unable to escape and come to play.
Today I was sad to learn I was only half right. His owner had managed to restrain him, but it was not by repairing the fence. He had the remains of a nylon rope that had been tied to his collar. Apparently this morning, or more likely last night, he managed to chew his way through and returned to see us.
He has been with us since about 7 this morning. It is getting late now, and soon I will have to set him out to fend for himself again. I am sure he will return home and be tied up again, and tomorrow I will get up and go on with my life. Maybe he will escape and return again.

Just about a month ago Ricco went to what we hoped would be his new, permanent home. In the past week, there have been some challenges. Dana, the young man that adopted Ricco, while he loves Ricco, is facing some personal challenges. Thankfully, Danas’ father and mother, are both dog lovers, and believe that this is an excellent opportunity to allow the healing power of a relationship with a dog to play its part in helping Dana hold his own life together. Ricco is sleeping inside, on Danas bed, he is fed well, walked daily, with access also to a fenced in yard, and he has Baby-Boy to play with. The young mans mother and father are monitoring the situation, and Riccos welfare is top priority; However it very satisfying to see Ricco give back. For the time being, we will let it play out.
The pictures are linked to the first video made when Ricco came to live with us in December 2010
If you would have asked me, I would have said “Of course this is going to happen.” Well…It did. Rico and Baby Boy are going to be coming back to us. I must say in their defense, this was a people problem and not a “doggie” problem. So…In 2 weeks, Ricco and Baby-Boy will be back and available to be fostered or adopted!
Here are some pics of Ricco!
So, if you or someone you know have room in your heart and in your life, contact me where you found this, or call 678-467-6280.
On December 12 of 2010, we brought Diva, Ricco, Baby-Boy and 10 puppies into our house. Things did not look good. Thanks to your posting, reposting, praying and telling people, we have commitments to take them all! Thank you!
This is a great example of the dynamic relationship between a dog that has been treated with love, and it’s human companion. Watching this, I hope that people will realize that these are not exceptional dogs…They are dogs that have been raised well. If this is not the image you have of dogs…step out and go spend some time at the local animal shelter. Dogs are wonderful animals, very deserving of our love.
Be sure to come back and let me know what you think.
